2020 is gonna be AWESOME!!!

2019 was more of a coast....next year, one day from now WILL be cranked up! A week in NB with some pretty sedentary activity except for a couple walks. What is on deck I say?.....FULL COMMIT to XC season this year. So...one "run done" Sunday and just finished first indoor spin and it wasn't that bad. Numbers don't lie and are pretty quick to humble but hey....gotta walk before ya can sprint right?! Lofty goals this year

Catching up on 2019 Season

The 2019 season has come and almost GONE and I’ve let this medium go silent. Can honestly say I’m not really “feeling” the Xc/enduro racing anymore. Had some sub par performances in minipine, RJs, And 24 hour solo. Not entirely upset about it but curious to see what the tides will bring me as I feel a change in passion brewing. One highlight was this weekend’s Saturday completion of the Corduroy Enduro. Showing up....riding every stage and transition to completion just “levelled me up” as a rider. Surprised myself on how well the bike and me could navigate the most gnarly terrain I’ve ever ridden. A creemore IPA and I are just punching in to get some perspective and try and figure out.....what’s “next”.....TBC.....

Winter bike prep and more snow on the way

Got a ski in on Sunday and a spin in today. Winter bike maintenance is escalating. Only managed to destroy a starter jet so far...

Hamster wheel session done

Garmin Connect

Nothing special...just consistency

Emms chairlift runs 4 hours straight...HAPPINESS IS!!!!

Brought my youngest, Emma(10 yr) to Battawa on Saturday in some pretty frigid conditions. Also brought Dave with his daughter and Greg for his first snowboard session of the year. Conditions were perfect for what the day was meant to be. Emma was a champ with ZERO fear. This meant I got to link some actual turns on the beginner runs while she pizza and frech fried her butt off. Also made the error in demo'ing new skiis....Elans....they pretty much brought me up a skiing level but can't justify the $1000 price tag when I have a decent set already AND a board but....maybe next year.

Training plan this week: Admin day today sooooo spin mid morning. In Ottawa for work Tues/Wednesday so night boarding Tuesday at Camp fortune. Have to pick up my ID that I left as part of the ski demo AND my custom CTI braces at the hill last saturday sooooo they have a two hour pass that I should take advantage of. We also have PROPER snow soooooo time to get out for an XC ski. Will look into this with the wifey for weekend!

Finally a session....work was slamming me

Easy to slam work for "not being able to workout" but that is weak.....but it was kinda true. Long days with early mornings and late night returns made it a little challenging to do anything but what I did this morning. Emails caught up, to do lists, almost done and tried out the new Garmin 500. Getting older and eyesight issues make reading this nice little unit a taad tough but meh...all good. Decent session in and completed. Maybe a run tomorrow and some Skiing on Saturday FO SHORE! My youngest wants to go and chair lift runs at the little hill with a big heart is just what is in store. T-minus 5 weeks until Vermont!

This weather..........ARRRRRRrrrrrrrr

Legs and hips a little "tight" from yesterday's boarding and feeling antsy....no snow to play in outside and too damn cold to do anything on 2 wheels OUT of doors and I HATE running......Hamster wheel it was while watching some boarding vids. Done

I'm BAAAAAaaaaaack

Got out for a little sesh on the snowboard yesterday
at the closest hill that had snow, Batawa. It ain't much but had just what I needed to hone the skills back up on the board. Made a few adjustments to the bindings (wider stance and tighter buckle positions and a 10% lean). By the end of the three hours......DIALED IN!

Indoor outta necessity...

Home office day....looong week of slugging heavy tubs and training for work. Needed to get a session on the hamster wheel. Hoping for some outdoor activities tomorrow. Plan? Get up early before the house and go for a half day of boarding at Battawa then home in time for 1 to hang with the family.

Night boarding at Camp Fortune - Dry January!

Sounds silly but last night was a pretty good indication that I am staying on the RIGHTEOUS path with this new lifestyle of exercise and BOOZE free approach! Have a couple overnights in a hotel with work in the Ottawa location. Threw the idea out to a moto buddy, Trent, that we should do a night board sesh while I was in town.....it all came together. Quads were feeling it but in a good way and it is the morning after and I feel GREAT! The big tempt was post board when we grabbed a bite and a "drink" at the chalet........this would be the PERFECT time for a pint but I restrained with a grapefruit juice. Fitness and mental preparedness is increasing for this year's season! Paid my OO dues so it's ON baby!

Plan....get a day in with work consults and then plan a workout tonight after a good dinner somewhere.....

Run with the wifey to keep the momentuum up!

Of course, I had one too many beers compliments of a buddy sending me a gift pack of Steamwhistle and recommend I drink this with the fancy schmancy Reidel beer glasses that accompanied the kit. Yup....tasty...Three king cans in and a couple glasses of wine with Jac over dinner had me waking up with more motivation for Monday's imminent "JANUARY GO DRY CHALLENGE". May push this into February as well...

Well, had to do something...both girls have friends over from sleepovers so it was an easy decision to do something OUTSIDE. Rund done....not a fan of the activity in general....doesn't float my boat, but it's crosstraining and can come in handy if I need to run back to the vehicle for some reason when out for a ride :)

Plan for the upcoming week? Simple.....Spin sometime tomorrow as part of home office day. In Ottawa for work Tuesday/Wednesday so hook up with a buddy for a snowboard Tuesday night at Camp Fortune and use the hotel gym on Wednesday night. Eat clean and stay the course with January DRY.

Winter? Really....prove it!

The decision to get an indoor spin in was quickly TWARTED (interesting word) with the fact that it was like 3 degrees out with clear roads. The idea to get outdoors for a spin came to me when cleaning up the garage. Mountain bike hanging on the wall, like a neglected step child, was calling for love. So, like I always seem to do, I overdressed and headed out for what I was anticipating to be a 30 k'ish road ride on the MTB.

One thing I recalled quickly was how bloody easy it is to spin outdoors vs the stationary magnetic resistance of the trainer. Also, the super comfy upright postion of my "doesn't owe me a cent" 2009 Giant Trance X2. Headed out the door and made a left down Bath road to connect to Collins Bay - left on Woodbine - right on Westbrook - right on Unity (eventually) and then made my way back down Gardiners to Creekford and Bayridge Extension. THIS is where it got interesting....

As I was rolling down Bayridge, there is some crown land that I have taken the motos on in past when anxious to get out pre or post season to just burn some gas. Figured I would pop in to take a leak and then get back on the road but the groudn was FROZEN and the traction was good! So, had a little bit of fun crossing water not knowing if I was going to break through and surprised how well the tires gripped on all the surfaces that this little area had to offer.

Couldn't tell how long I was out or the distance travelled but would think I was definitely out for an hour and a half....that is likely DOUBLE what i would have tolerated spinning without forward momentuum. So, workout done. Looking forward to watching the supercross tonight! Let's see if Plessinger kills it!
